Dead Sea salt: Is it really the King of Salts?

Updated: Apr 18, 2022

We've all heard that Dead Sea products are supposed to be amazing for your skin - and the price certainly reflects that. However, just because something is billed as the "King Of" doesn't make it true (hello, Budweiser).

So, is Dead Sea salt really all it's cracked up to be?

The Dead Sea: A destination for travelers on a healing mission

People have been hitting the shores of the Dead Sea for centuries to soak in the special waters known to be so salty, you float even if you can't swim. The Dead Sea has the highest concentration of minerals of any saltwater body in the world; it's filled with natural healing elements that not only treat skin conditions but, when used in natural bath products, penetrate to improve health from the inside out.

Serious minerals for a serious soak Dead Sea Salt contains a lot more than sodium! In total, the mineral salt contains at least 21 minerals including magnesium (the main composition of Epsom salts), calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, zinc and potassium. These essential minerals naturally occur in our bodies, but we're also supposed to replenish them daily through our food supply. Sadly, the average diet is sorely lacking in these minerals because our food supply no longer contains high concentrations of these minerals due to industrial farming practices and depleted soils. Supplementation can help, but the bioavailability - the body's ability to actually absorb minerals in pill form - is questionable. Fortunately, Dead Sea salt baths are a method to absorb these minerals in quantities necessary to detoxify and cleanse our bodies.

Skin healing properties of Dead Sea salt While the individual minerals in Dead Sea salt are valuable enough, together they can really produce some amazing benefits to the skin. Contrary to the myth that salt water is drying, these minerals are actually moisturizing and nourishing to the skin, helping it maintain its own natural moisture barrier - which can help skin look younger and healthier and more elastic, because it pulls moisture from the lower layers of skin up to the surface. Of course, nourished skin looks younger...and so does relaxed skin. After a soak in Dead Sea salt, you're certainly sure to be relaxed and feel better, which translates into looking better, too! Common skin disorders are often improved by the use of Dead Sea salt, also - and it's completely safe, with none of the side effects that medicated creams can have. That makes Dead Sea salt the natural choice for relief of common skin issues like acne, psoriasis, dry skin, eczema and dandruff. Essentially, the minerals in the salt work with the skin's own natural healing systems to restore balance to the skin, disposing of bacteria and toxins as well as excess oil, replenishing moisture, providing nourishment and establishing the proper pH so the skin can re-set itself.

More health benefits of Dead Sea salt You know those miracle products advertised on the Shopping Channel that are supposed to do 3, 3, THREE things in one? Well, Dead Sea salt has got them all beat. Because it's high in potassium, it fights water retention and penetrates the skin to rid the body of the toxins that get trapped below the skin's surface - the same toxins that cause cellulite to build up. So with regular use, you can expect smoother skin not just on the surface, but at a deeper level, too.

Dead Sea salt is also considered to be an anti-inflammatory agent, and anyone with a chronic health condition whose symptoms are caused or exacerbated by inflammation knows that fighting it is no easy matter. Chronic inflammation is best tackled on multiple fronts, from diet and exercise to medicines - and Dead Sea salt having no side effects or known drug interactions, it's a safe form of natural medicine to provide relief from sore, swollen and stiff joints characterized by such ailments as psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis.

In fact, Dead Sea salt is so potent, relaxing and effective that the H20 Float Spa, a popular float spa in Toronto, is now using our Dead Sea salt as an addition to their float tanks - which already contain 1,000 kg of Epsom salts each!
